Busey is committed to helping our customers affected by the federal government shutdown that began October 1, 2025.
Busey remains strong and stable—and customers’ FDIC-insured deposits remain fully protected and readily available. To help navigate this time of financial uncertainty, here are basic tips to keep in mind:
Review Monthly Expenses
Analyze your monthly expenses to determine how you can reduce costs to optimize your cash flow and also check your emergency fund savings. With a complete inventory of your household bills, you’ll be able to make a better determination of where and how you may be able to cut costs, including:
Reach Out to Your Bank
Depending on your individual circumstances, your bank may be able to offer solutions to assist you, including fee waivers, loan modifications, payment deadline extensions, payroll advances, low-rate and zero-rate loans.
Contact Your Mortgage Lender
Homeowners should reach out to their mortgage lender to see if payment options are available to help them during the shutdown. If you have issues paying your mortgage, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) can provide support from certified housing counselors. In addition, Homeowner-Help.org is a free online tool that connects homeowners with resources and assistance when facing financial hardships.
Call Your Utility Companies
Reach out to your local utility providers to explain your situation and learn more about any potential assistance they can offer.
Look to Organizations for Assistance
Local food banks may be able to assist those needing assistance during difficult times. Organizations like FeedingAmerica.org and 211.org can also help identify support in your area.
Speak with a Credit Counselor
Trained credit counselors are prepared to help you assess your current situation and evaluate your best options.
Remain Vigilant Against Fraud
It’s important to remain fraud aware during this time as scammers could take advantage of this situation to target you. Be wary of suspicious phone calls, emails and text messages. Busey’s recent blog post offers additional tips to protect your personal information.
